EGYPT: RECORD DESERT CROSSING, 2ND GUINESS FOR NESSIM

(ANSAmed) - LUXOR (EGYPT), NOVEMBER 12 - Almost 1,300 km of desert in just 13 hours and 45 minutes, from the oasis of Siwa to Abu Simbel. Egypt's Hisham Nessim covered the distance in an off-road vehicle, finishing the first effort of its kind in the western desert of the country for the second time ans entering the Guiness Book of World Records. Recognising his effort the day before yesterday in Luxor was the representative of Guiness World Records Talal Omar, who officially granted the record. Nessim left the oasis of Siwa at 6:30 in a Land Rover arriving at the destination of Abu Simbel a little after 20.00. He connected the two furthest points in Egypt for the first time. Last March he earned the first record covering 650 km in 5 hours 33 minutes. Nessim was welcomed upon his arrival in Abu Simbel by local authorities and an official from the Ministry of Tourism, as well as a large crowd, with songs and dances from local traditions. The effort "was a great dream for me", he said happily to ANSAmed, "and finally I've made it come true. In 14 hours I made a journey that on asphalt would have taken 5 days". Nessim boasted the award of being the first Arab and the first Egyptian to enter the Guiness World Records twice in a year. (ANSAmed).

naja, einerseits ne gute leistung, über 13 stunden immer mit knapp 100 km/h durch die wüste zu heizen...
